What is leadership?

This question has been asked over and over again, throughout the years. In its endeavors to provide top-quality leadership training, MLW must define this concept for itself. The official definition of leadership which MLW uses is as follows:

Leadership is comprised of an array of skills and characteristics. The essence of leadership is the ability to persuade or motivate people to achieve a goal or outcome.

The skills and characteristics that make a leader effective are not only beneficial in managing groups, they also have a powerful impact on all aspects of one's life. Leadership is the most important determinant of the future of humanity. IT is the most potent force at our disposal. We must develop leadership, harness it, and focus it to achieve our goals.

As always, MLW seeks new and innovative ways to define leadership. This very definition provides the organization with the direction in which everything is structured, from its Policy Board directives to its summer programs.
